How to Make the Best Use of the Internet to Sell Your Art, Photography & Craftwork

This Secret will help you sell everything you create

The internet has created a huge marketplace for all kinds of products, especially for artwork. Before you get suckered into creating an expensive website with a gallery that will be lost in cyberspace, keep the following in mind:

People will not be beating their way to your website. Literally billions of web pages exist on the internet at the time of this writing. Do a search on Google for your type of artwork and I can guarantee that several million pages will come up. Unless you plan on spending a fortune on advertising your site, you will be lost in cyberspace; so, how do we make the best use of the internet?

Think of the internet as a communication tool between you and your customers. I utilize the internet to drive my offline customers, in other words, people that I meet at art shows, galleries, referrals, to a place online where they can see more of my artwork in the comfort of their own home. Remember someone is viewing my website because they all ready have been exposed to my artwork and my website. Now once at my website, they can order directly online, in the comfort of their own home!

I also recommend that you cross market with other artists that work in the same genre as you. For example, if you specialize in landscapes oils try to connect with an artist that does landscape photography. In this way, you, the other artist and the customer all benefit.

In this strategy, you would connect with another artist and share your databases with one another. Again, you both own customer databases of customers that are interested in the same genre of artwork. Create email campaigns and offline advertising to include these new potential customers. By doing so, you will effectively broaden your exposure to a captive audience.

Definitively the one strategy that allows me to get the most out of the internet experience is called “the name squeeze.” Design your website so those that do visit want to leave their name and email address. Why would someone want to leave you their information? They will type their name and email address into the box provided in order to receive the wonderful free gift that you offer! I recommend that you create something to give away; something small and easy to ship, and obviously something indicative of your art.

Once you own their information, you will be on your way to building a list of thousands of potential customers. Remember each of them raised their hands and said “I am interested in what you create!”

Imagine, now when you create a piece of artwork you merely broadcast an announcement to your list, and get them excited about your new release!
